APPEAL
On March 11th, 2011, the Pacific coast of the Tohoku region was hit by one of the most devast ating earthquake s in Jpanese history. The ensuing Tsunami destroyed cities and villages along with the beautiful landscape of mountains and ocean, within a matter of seconds. Adding to the natural disasters, a series of nuclear power plant accidents continue to threaten our lives and contaminate our land and ocean.
The number of dead or missing has surpassed 20,000, and the estimated economic damage is said to be more than 20 trillion Japanese Yen. People are trying to rebuild everything from the scratch, for the first time since the tragedy of the last World War. However, there has been an overwhelming outpouring of support from all over the world. This amazing display of support has given the victims strength and courage to fight back, and stand up to this challenge.
Clubs and individual fitness professionals have been giving all their support by sending specialists to provide healthcare and wellness/fitness services to victims. They have also been donating funds and goods. In addition to such efforts, the Fitness Industry Association of Japan (FIA) has decided to provide further support in both a collective and cooperative manner.
First of all, the FIA has decided to provide Temporally Relief unds to non-permanent employees such as freelance instructors and part-time/contract-based employees, to help re-start their lives. This is because usually those non-permanent employees are in a more vulnerable position in terms of receiving any public funds or support, whereas full-time employees are protected by unemployment compensation. Secondly, the FIA is conducting mid- to long-term charity activities, utilizing occasions such as the Masters Swimming, fitness events at the Elderly Day, FIA Convention, and Fitness Hotline, to collect donations to support recovery of the disasters.
The FIA is now asking you to join our disaster relief and recovery aid by sending your donation. The details are as follows:
